Road transport, including a private car and a bus, plays a dominant role in passenger mobility in India based on passenger-kilometers. A large part of this is mainly a result from the increase of high-density short-haul transport due to the shortage of efficient alternatives, such as rail-based public transport systems. Intercity road transport is expected to further grow as well. With this situation, India plans to introduce inter-city high-speed railways. Assessment of the feasibility of a high speed railway implementation is necessary to grasp the current and future prospect of inter city road transport. Clean Air Asia will collect analyze relevant data such as:
- Average mode split of vehicles on national highways
- Origin-Destination survey data for determining passenger characteristics
- Railway and highway traffic data for specific O-D pairs
