The organization, Jeju International Training Center(JITC) is also called CIFAL Jeju, meaning that it is part of CIFAL Network (International Training Center for Local Authorities) of UNITAR, a training arm of the UN system.
The Center has been established to provide workshops/seminars to help local governments’ capacity-building, especially in the area of ‘human security and safety’ and ‘sustainable urbanization and environment’ in cooperation with UNITAR.
The second workshop for 2012 on Green Growth is to be held from May 2-4 (Wed-Fri), 2012 in Jeju, South Korea with the topic “Low-Carbon City: Green Growth for Local Governments”. This workshop aims at promoting awareness about green growth policy and bringing an appropriate city planning with low carbon footprint objectives.
Jeju is Korea’s largest island located off the south coast of the Korean Peninsula. Jeju Island, created from volcanic eruptions, has become UNESCO’s World Heritage Site for its exquisite natural beauty. Many summit meetings – bilateral and multilateral – have been held in Jeju Island throughout the year, and efforts are being made to promote Jeju as a regional hub for international conferences and meetings of all kinds.
